hi-fi love

gentle strumming of the guitar
the humming of the lips
passion from the core
electronic beeps enter
creating the world of where
I live today

then the tinkling of the piano
acoustically charges my head
as my heart remembers the beats
of the drum machine enticing
both arms to embrace how
I live today

badabadabadabe-ah
badabeah beah abadada
beeep beeep aahhhh
I live today
beep-beep badabda be
this is today

This national craving for sweet things is said to come from the time of the Moorish rule, but afterward developed into a taste for national goodies. This meant that many monasteries became famous in the 17th and 18th century for their pastry: for instance "toucinho do céu" - heavenly pig's fat, or "barriga de freiras" - sister's belly.

Among the best pastries based on eggs are the "ovos moles", originally from Aveiro. They play an important role in the Portuguese sweets kitchen, and can be found as little shells, extra cakes, or as decoration on larger cakes, sometimes sprinkled with cinnamon, walnut or almonds.

Other great delicacies are the endless variations on "pão de ló", a light sponge cake, "palha Abrantes", pastry of thin gold threads based on eggs, "pastéis de nata", cream cakes, "belém", the marzipan of the Algarve, and the "pão de rala" of Evora, made with white pumpkin candy wrapped in almonds.
